JMSU is the students’ union at Liverpool John Moores University. It is a student-led organisation representing the 27,000 students. They organise events, house student groups, run campaigns and support students in their university experience with advice and support.
Problem
Students were confusing them as a section of the university. They needed to show what they offer as a ‘critical friend’ of the university. They needed to show that the Union is a space to empower students to make the change they want to see within the university and wider society as well as offering support and services to LJMU students.
Solution
This has been a work-in-progress throughout my time working at JMSU. I’ve been working closely with the elected students and wider team and have slowly refined their colour scheme and developed their visual identity.
The identity is based around the shapes of the logo and can be shaped in a similar way to how the organisation is shaped each year by the changing team of elected students. It communicates empowerment but also care and belonging and is clearly differentiated from the more corporate university identity.
