Mad Pride Festival

Mad Pride is a global mass movement of the users of mental health services, and their allies, seeking to reclaim terms such as ‘mad’ and ‘nutter’ from misuse. It aims to educate on potential causes of mental distress and the experiences of those who use mental health services; but most of all, it celebrates and stands in solidarity with those who experience some form of mental distress.

Problem

They wanted to bring the Mad Pride concept to a wider audience in Liverpool, encouraging people to speak up about their mental health to overcome stigma that still provades about mental health. They wanted to promote the idea that madness can often be what makes people unique.

Solution

A modern take on the Mad Pride imagery while keeping the wild and punky character it has always had, using influences from Picasso’s impossible circus acrobats.
